Film Screening of Dirt in Your Face
In this exclusive Discovery Campus masterclass, acclaimed Estonian cinematographer Elen Lotman takes us behind the camera of Dirt in Your Face (Musta pori näkku, 2026), featured in this year's Baltic Film Competition at PÖFF. Set against the turbulent backdrop of late-1980s Soviet Estonia, this energetic road movie follows a group of young, rebellious musicians pushing against the boundaries of a crumbling empire.
Lotman will share her creative process and visual approach to crafting a dynamic period road film. She will discuss how she translated the story’s raw, youthful defiance and emotional intimacy into a compelling visual language—balancing movement, lighting, and camera proximity to capture both the expansive freedom of the open road and the claustrophobic weight of the era. Through scene breakdowns and open discussion, she will explore her overarching visual philosophy and the artistic decisions that shaped the film’s unique aesthetic.
