Frame Within a Frame Master Screening: The Kite Runner
This programme features a special screening of The Kite Runner, a world-renowned film showcasing the masterful work of cinematographer Roberto Schaefer ASC, AIC. Following the screening, there will be an in-depth case study on the cinematography of the film, presented by Roberto Schaefer himself. The session will be moderated by Elen Lotman ESC, President of the Estonian Society of Cinematographers. Together, they will discuss the cinematographic approach, creative inspirations, and technical processes that Roberto and his team employed to bring the film's stunning visuals to life.
Amir lives in California with his wife Soraya. He receives a call from his uncle Rahim Khan who urges him to travel to Afghanistan and rescue the son of Amir's childhood servant and friend, Hassan.
The Kite Runner is a 2007 American drama film directed by Marc Forster from a screenplay by David Benioff and based on the 2003 novel of the same name by Khaled Hosseini. It tells the story of Amir (Ebrahimi) a well-to-do boy from the Wazir Akbar Khan district of Kabul who is tormented by the guilt of abandoning his friend Hassan (Mahmoodzada). The story is set against a backdrop of tumultuous events, from the fall of the monarchy in Afghanistan through the Soviet military intervention, the mass exodus of Afghan refugees to Pakistan and the United States, and the Taliban regime.
