Insight on Developing Writers: European Writers Club and Case Studies
European Writers Club: BRIDGING GENERATIONS/connecting audiences.
What is BG, and what is its importance in storytelling across platforms and formats? EWC will present the significance of BG (background) in today’s storytelling landscape, emphasizing why it’s more crucial than ever creating shared stories between generations and across formats. This will be followed by a discussion with two significant members of our special advisory board, who will offer their perspectives on effectively reaching audiences across different formats and generations.
Two industry experts from different storytelling worlds share their unique perspectives. Per-Olav Sørensen, the acclaimed Norwegian director behind Nobel, Quicksand, The Playlist, Home for Christmas, and many more, will offer insights into his process of developing compelling narratives for TV and streaming, honed through years of collaboration with Netflix. He will discuss how he tailors his storytelling to meet the expectations of diverse audiences, from TV and film to Netflix viewers. Joining him is Jim Ashilevi, Estonian author and director known for being lead VO director of ZA/UM Studio's Disco Elysium, which evolved from ZA/UM cultural collective's worldbuilding concept into an award-winning video game. Jim has since been co-creating ZA/UM Studio's upcoming projects as a game writer. Together, they’ll explore how their different experiences in television, film, and gaming converge to create powerful stories, providing practical lessons for creators navigating diverse storytelling platforms.
This panel provides opportunities to filmmakers, writers, game developers, and industry professionals interested in the intersection of film, television, gaming, and other formats.
