Discovery Campus opens the call for emerging film professionals and talents

Discovery Campus, an international continuing education program by Industry@Tallinn & Baltic Event, together with prestigious international partners, is searching for emerging screenwriters, directors and cinematographers as well as talents in film music and art department to participate and actors and actresses in its 2025 edition.

Discovery Campus includes five strands: Music Meets Film, dedicated to film music, Frame Within a Frame for cinematographers; Black Room focusing on the art department; Black Nights Stars, designed for actors and actresses; and Script Pool competition, showcasing five international projects and their teams (director-scriptwriter, and producer). As in previous years, during the four-day program, all the participants are invited to attend masterclasses by renowned experts, workshops and events to complement and integrate their studies in filmmaking.

Triin Tramberg, Managing Director of Discovery Campus, shares her enthusiasm about launching the call for this year’s edition: "Over the years, the programme has welcomed hundreds of emerging film professionals, and it’s always a pleasure to witness their achievements in the film industry. Recently, we were thrilled to learn that two former Script Pool projects — The Mysterious Gaze of the Flamingo by Diego Céspedes and Mama by Or Sinai — will have their premieres at the Cannes Film Festival."

As with every year, the programme features exciting new additions also this time—Frame Within a Frame is expanding with fresh partnerships, including Aalto University and IMAGO Technical Committee (ITG) while Black Room turns its focus to hair and make-up design.

Music Meets Film programm for 2025 includes masterclasses by BAFTA-winning and Emmy-nominated Icelandic composer Atli Örvarsson and an established Estonian film composer Ardo Ran Varres.The programme also features panel discussion about scoring for film and video games in co-operation with Estonian sync agency Tier Music Publishing.

Just like last year, the most promising Script Pool project will be awarded an exclusive opportunity to attend The Writer’s Retreat in Mallorca. Black Nights Stars, gathering young actors and actressses, helps the participants to gain international visibility and promote themselves inside and outside their home territories.

Valuable lessons and growth of professional network

Each year about 40 emerging talents attend the programme and based on the last year’s feedback, taking part of the Discovery Campus has been highly appreciated.

Tramberg explaines, that the former participants have deeply valued the opportunity to learn directly from award-winning film professionals through hands-on workshops, masterclasses, and live events. “They have appreciated the open, collaborative atmosphere that fosters connections across different cultures, disciplines, and career stages, she adds. Most of all, the participants have valued the personal and professional growth the programme focuses on, helping them gain confidence, build lasting networks, and take important steps forward in their creative journeys,” she adds.

The Discovery Campus 2025 edition’s programme is in development, and mentors will be announced in autumn, but according to Tramberg, the programme will include masterclasses, workshops, and practical advice by renowned masters and experts. The list of speakers and mentors of Discovery Campus’ previous editions include director Sahar Rozen, director, producer and BAFTA-winner Mike Newell, cinematographers Philippe Ros and Dante Spinotti, production designers Jacqueline Abrahams, Maria Djurkovic, Simon Weisse, Sabine Hviid, Christian Olander, Kave Quinn, acclaimed composer, arranger and songwriter John Altman, internationally known casting directors Cassandra Han, Frank Moisell, and Julia Short from International Screen Institute among others.
The Discovery Campus programme is carried out in close cooperation with international partners, including the International Screen Institute, the online platform T-Port, Aalto University and IMAGO Technical Committee (ITG), e-Talenta, Tier Music Publishing.

In 2025, the programme takes place from November 18-22 in Tallinn during the renowned Black Nights Film Festival and Industry@Tallinn & Baltic Event.

The last date for submissions for Black Room, Music Meets Film, Frame Within a Frame and Script Pool is 30 June 2025. The call for Black Nights Stars will be closed on 24 May 2025.
