Just in a few weeks, two previous participants from Script Pool competition - "The Mysterious Gaze of the Flamingo” and “Mama” - are having their premiers in Cannes Film Festival.
In 2021, Diego Céspedes presented his screenplay The Mysterious Gaze of the Flamingo at the Script Pool competition during Industry@Tallinn & Baltic Event. Set in the early 1980s in the Chilean desert, the film tells the story of 11-year-old Lidia, who grows up in a loving queer family on the fringes of an unwelcoming, dusty mining town. The community blames them for a mysterious illness rumored to spread through a single gaze—specifically, when one man falls in love with another.
In this modern western, Lidia embarks on a quest for vengeance, confronting violence, fear, and hatred. Her family remains her only refuge, while love itself might be the greatest danger of all. “This isn’t a story about heroes,” Céspedes said. “I simply want to reclaim those who were pushed aside and forgotten. And also laugh a little.” The film will have its premiere in the Un Certain Regard section of the Cannes Film Festival.
Meanwhile, the Cannes Special Screening section will host the premiere of Mama by Or Sinai. The project, then named Home was part of Script Pool in 2022.
It's a truly inspiring moment for Industry@Tallinn & Baltic Event and our partner T-Port who has been assisting us with the Script Pool selection process. Promoting and developing emerging talents is both of our driving forces, and it seeing our projects fly high ensures us we’re on the right path.
PS. The submissions for Script Pool 2025 will be opened in early May. Just keep an eye on our social channels and website!
